Tewksbury and VFW Post 8164 recognizes its Vietnam Veterans.
This morning, in observance of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, VFW Post 8164 gathered to honor the service, bravery, and sacrifices of Vietnam War veterans. A wreath-laying ceremony took place on the Common, bringing residents together in a moment of reflection.
March 29th was chosen for this observance as it marks the day in 1973 when the final U.S. combat troops were withdrawn from Vietnam. National Vietnam Veterans Day serves as a reminder of the hardships faced by veterans and their families, and is part of a broader national initiative to give overdue recognition to the men and women who did not receive a proper welcome upon their return home more than 40 years ago.
Commander Vinnie Oliva and Commander Joe Zangri spoke to the crowd, honoring those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War.
They specifically honored Tewksbury residents:
SP4 Daniel Kenneth Erlandson
LCPL George Arthur Kyricos
Capt. Richard Girard Morin
WO David Michael Morris
SN Luco William Palma
SP4 Robert Everett Spires
Vietnam veterans Dick Frank and Richard DiCostantino had the distinct honor of placing the Vietnam Wreath at the base of the memorial, symbolizing the deep respect and gratitude owed to all who served.

Vietnam War pins were distributed to all of the veterans in attendance. Visit Veterans of Foreign Wars to learn how you can support your local veterans.
