"It’s not just a pup.”    "It’s not just a jump.”    "It’s not just an event.”

22Mohawks uses a proactive approach for suicide prevention. Our two core programs are the 22Mohawks Pups for Vets and First Responders Companion Dog Program and the 22Mohawks Airborne Course and Retreat Operations.

Suicide is a national public health issue that impacts people from all walks of life, regardless of whether or not they have served in the military.  According to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide was the 10th leading cause of death across all ages in 2016, claiming the lives of nearly 45,000 people. It is estimated that Veteran suicides represent approximately 22 percent of all suicide deaths in the U.S.

Since September 2021, with the help of our community, 22Mohawks has paired 115 dogs with veterans, police, first responders, and firefighters. A study by the Michigan National Guard, in 2022 found that organizations that give dogs to veterans there is a 0% suicide rate.

We have also completed our 4th 22Mohawks Airborne Course and Retreat Operations in Dunnellon, FL at the X-35 Airborne School. In total bringing over 60 Veterans & First Responders through this program. It has been proven that adrenaline-producing activities reduce and can even eliminate anxiety and depression in the short term.
